Choosing wine at Easter

Lamb just seems to lend itself to wine. Red Bordeaux or Cabernet are usually a safe bet, but how you prepare your lamb as well as how long your will cook your lamb; may just be the deciding factor on which wine you will pair with your dish.

Just look around there are as many variations of lamb preparations as there are wines to pair with them.

Here are some of our top picks and recommendations for pairings, World Wide!

Herb roasted, rack of lamb, noisettes and leg of lamb. When served with a pink center all pair well with the usual suspects of Bordeaux or even a Beaujolais.

 

When serving lamb that has been given the attention of properly prepared fresh herbs, and the lamb takes on a Mediterranean flair; a vintage rosé Champagne can be a special treat.

Equally as special and not quite as expensive our recommendation is Friuli Isonzo Rosa Cormòns!

In New England many households serve a roasted lamb cooked medium rare to well done seasoned with garlic and rosemary. When accompanied with a wine based gravy this dish has always locked itself into a deep Merlot or Cabernet pairing. If you are looking for something different, can we recommend a Chianti Classico?

Grilled lamb
This is one of the tougher calls as there are many different levels of marinades or rubs.  Italian Reds such as Barbera cozy up well with Grilled lamb that’s preparation included a marinade, with lemon zest and herbs.  Keep in mind a wine that has a higher acidity will be more likely to compliment this type of dish.Screen Shot 2016-03-25 at 8.18.12 PM.pngDuchessa Lia Barbera D’Asti with it’s intense bouquet of fresh fruit and well structured, dry yet full-bodied flavor will compliment your dish.
